How much do coffee machines cost for businesses?

That depends on the type of coffee machine you choose, the size of your coffee machine, and the supplier you get it from. Generally, though, rental prices range from around £8 per week to upwards of £25 per week. It’s not as common as renting, but if you do buy a coffee machine outright, it can cost from under £100 to several hundred pounds.

Is buying a coffee machine for my workplace any different to buying one for my home?

Yes, it is. Firstly, you’ll have some additional options to consider when looking for a workplace coffee machine. A coin-operated vending machine, for example, isn’t something you’d buy for your home, but it does make sense in a workplace. Similarly, you may not need a machine that can make 14 different drinks in your own kitchen, but in the workplace this machine might offer enough variety to cater to your workforce’s varying tastes and preferences.

There’s also the question of capacity. Depending on the size of your team, you might need a coffee machine with the capacity to fill dozens – or even hundreds – of cups in one day. In all probability, that’s not something you’d need at home.

There are differences with regards to payment, too. When you get a coffee machine for your home, you’ll pay for it outright (or at least on a credit plan). Instead, you’re more likely to rent or lease a workplace coffee machine, paying a sum of money on a monthly or weekly basis for as long as you keep the machine.

What should I look for in a workplace coffee machine?

The most important thing to consider when you buy a coffee machine is the type of coffee you want. Different types of machine make different types of coffee, such as espresso, cappuccino, and filter, so it’s important that you choose the right one. Machines range from simple filter machines to complex machines that make lots of different kinds of drinks, so you’ll also want to look at where on that spectrum your coffee machine ought to sit.

Next up, you’ll want to think about the more technical specs. The most important questions to ask are:

  • How many cups of coffee do you need it to make?
  • How large or small should it be to fit in the space you have available?
  • Should it have permanent or disposable filters?

There are also a number of handy features that you should keep an eye out for. These include:

  • An automatic safety switch off measure
  • An indication of the amount of water in the machine
  • A control for the strength of the coffee made
  • A power indicator to show if the machine is on or off
  • A milk frother (if you want to be able to use your machine to make cappuccinos)
